An Overview of Finest Technologies's Backbone Internet Connections
Finest Technologies's collocation provider (colo) has been in business at the present location in the NYC area for more than 5 years. They have 24/7 tech support with an approximate 5 minute (or less) response time. Additionally and very important - they are profitable since the second month of operation (as ZDMMI is). Any company that is not profitable is a MAJOR risk to use as a service provider (unfortunately as many companies have recently discovered).

Backbone: ATT, Cable and Wireless and UUNET Connections, ALL FIBER to the building with Verizon fiber and ATT Fiber. All Internet Connections running BGP4 redundant routing. ZDMMI's colo provider has an OC48 in the telco closet with a capacity of 2.14 gigabits/sec or 16 OC12’s which have a capacity of 648 megabits/sec each. It is not used to full capacity because doing so would make them DRASTICALLY un-profitable and be a waste as they presently do not need it however, we are able to use this capacity when needed.

The backbone connections failover between each other. Since they run BGP all IP's are announced on all internet links, if one goes down the announcement cant get through and traffic stops coming in that way. There is no need to change IP's (for DNS) as with lower-end providers.

Backbone upgrades are on order and will be posted here (gigabyte is on the way).

Equipment: (too much to list) The routers are all Cisco, a 3660 is used for Internet Uplinks. The Co-Location room is routed through an etinc Bandwidth Manager, out to 3com Level 3 switches.

Routing: As indicated above, all Internet links run BGP4. AS# is 10844.  Network Capacity: Depends on Load, the colo will vary the speed on their Internet links based on what load there is. They have the capacity to get over 155M/bit within short notice.

Uptime: Is over 99%. Technically it is 100% since the BGP routing keeps everything up. In order for us to lose connectivity we would have to lose the fiber coming in to the building.

Power Backup: The facility system provides multiple APC UPS and a Generac backup generator. Genset will run 8 hours before refuel. Over a one week supply of fuel is immediately available.  Read This!

Rackspace & Data Backups: Finest Technologies currently has a full cabinet (and room to grow) with a Fast Ethernet (100 mbps) connection directly to the colo's router maximizing thru-put (no 10mbps connection with a full cabinet).  To provide redundant, conditioned and monitored power, we also run a APC SmartUPS 3000.  We offsite and archive critical data to ensure redundant data storage with onsite, tape backups available.  ZDMMI has multiple IPs immediately available and can get you online quickly.

Servers: Server(s) can be built to your specifications or ours. We also may provide access to existing servers. We provide Windows 2000, Sun-Colbalt and Redhat Linux Servers. Do you need 2 boxes with 48 IPs? Something more? or less? we can customize our service to meet your growing needs.

DNS: Want us to host your DNS? We provide Primary DNS and Secondary DNS services via an network of multiple geographically dispersed DNS servers FREE with every account!
